Unless you are a fan of either team, or need you need your kicker to win your fantasy week like me – there isn’t much to watch in this dud of a Monday nighter to conclude week 10. I was big on the Chiefs this year, and wrote off last season due to their injuries. They run the ball well, and have above average talent on defence, and a big target at WR in Dwayne Bowe. I solely blame the years of poor quarterbacking in Kansas City for their demise, as they will be looking to upgrade in the upcoming draft – they have too!
On the flip side, the Steelers are coming off a big victory on the road in New York against the Giants. They were buried a couple of times in the game, lost another man down to injury in Antonio Brown, overcame some questionable penalties and still found a way to win! Big Ben has been playing some of his best football, and it appears that the Steelers will be a healthy unit towards the end of the year which is going to be a nightmare for the other contenders in the AFC.
The Steelers have been moving the ball well, with great balance-by-committee out of the backfield as well as through the air with ol’ reliable Ben Roethlistberger, who is converting on 51% of their 3rd down situations. I expect much of the same as the recipe as the Steelers will hand the ball off to the dual backs of Isaac Redman and Johnathon Dwyer, which will open up the field for burners Mike Wallace and Emmanuel Sanders (who will start in place of Antonio Brown)
For the Chiefs to have a chance, they need struggling quarterback Matt Cassel to do more than just hand it off to stud running back Jamaal Charles. Charles has been the only bright spot in the Chiefs anemic offense this year, as he is in the top 5 in rushing with 634 yards on the ground.
Cassel will need to look down field for the talented Bowe, and hopefully one of the other receivers like Breaston, Baldwin, or McCluster will step up. The Chiefs have not lead at all this year, which is embarrassing to say the least. Their only victory this year was on a game ending touchdown against the Saints.
But right now they are going to be in tough against a Steelers squad who is getting comfortable with their offence. Todd Haley’s offence has been holding possession of the ball for almost half the game, and keeping the game plan simple. Although Big Ben has come on record to say he’s not a fan of the play calling, it appears that this is a great system for him to be in as his numbers are great, and he is spreading the ball around better than he every has in his career.
Although they are not the Steel curtain of old, they still feature a stout run defense which only yields 262 total yards against. For a team that has not moved the ball well, the Steelers defense is the last thing the Chiefs want to see. Look for DC Dick Lebeau to make Matt Cassel run for his life and force some turnovers.
Look for the Steelers to run a way with this one early and score often….Big games from Big Ben, Emmanuel Sanders, Isaac Redman, and Dwayne Bowe.
Steelers win – Too many to not enough!
